2:01Now PlayingBYL Nair Hospital in Mumbai Central has become the city's first civic-run hospital to begin a phase 3 clinical study of the city's indigenous vaccine, ZyCoV-D. A total of 50 children aged 12 to 17 years old will be involved in the study. Half of the volunteers will receive a placebo, which is a fake vaccine. ZyCoV-D, a plasmid DNA vaccine developed by Ahmedabad-based Zydus Cadila, is the first-of-its-kind vaccination that uses a genetically designed DNA molecule known as a plasmid that is coded to create spike protein of Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19. It triggers an immunological response against it, resulting in the formation of antibodies.
