The deceased used to study in a school in Michaelpatti near Thirukattupalli in the Thanjavur district. She died by suicide allegedly owing to harassment by her hostel warden Sahayamary, who has been arrested for abetting the suicide. Although, the school has denied any such allegation and has said, "We are a 160-year-old institution not a single allegation were made against us in all these years."
