Supreme Court Gives The Last Opportunity To Centre For Its Stand On Uniform Civil Code

The Supreme Court has expressed dissatisfaction that the government has not yet filed its response to a petition that challenges the validity of section 2(f) of the National Commission for Minority Education Institutions Act and granted “one last opportunity” to the government to file it within a week on payment of a fine of Rs 7500. The petitioner, in the alternative, has sought direction to the Centre to lay down guidelines for identification of minorities at the state level, saying Hindus are in majority in ten states in India and are unable to avail the benefits of schemes meant for minorities.
