1:44Now PlayingGerman Chancellor Olaf Scholz has arrived in Moscow where he holds a talk with President Vladimir Putin which is currently underway. The meeting is in regards to the latest Western effort to reduce growing tensions over a Russian troop buildup near Ukraine. Scholz’s trip to the Russian capital follows similar trips for crisis talks last week by French President Emmanuel Macron and two British ministers. The German leader's diplomatic endeavour comes as Russia on February 15 claimed that it was pulling back some of its troops near the Ukrainian border to their bases, in what would be the first step toward de-escalation. The reported movements, which could not be independently verified, run counter to warnings from the United States and Britain that Russia may be poised to invade Ukraine at any time. It was not immediately clear how many soldiers Russia was claiming to be withdrawing.
