Bulk consumers of diesel were notified of yet another increase in prices last week, which has led to the widening of the gap between retail and bulk prices of the fuel, with the retail prices being significantly cheaper. Diesel prices are up by Rs 25/L. Given that 85 % of crude oil imported is imported, the price rise is inevitable, tells RS Sharma, Former CMD, ONGC to Heena Gambhir. A 10% increase in the prices of diesel will lead to 'second order' effects by means of transport etc, says Axis Bank's Chief Economist, Saugata Bhattacharya.
