Housing Development Finance Corporation, India's largest housing finance company, is increasing its lending rates by 5 basis points. The decision will increase EMI for existing borrowers. HDFC, however, said that there was no change in lending for new borrowers. We will be joined by expert guests to share their views on this. "Banks need to cover costs and take the opportunity to make profits," says former Finance Secretary of India, Subhash Chandra Garg. "Given the current macroeconomic conditions, the RBI is expected to increase the repo rate by 50 basis points," says Director & Principal Economist, India Ratings, Dr. Sunil Sinha. As former Chief Economist of SBI, Dr. Brinda Jagirdar says, "the COVID-19 crisis spared no one."
