Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister K Ponmudy stoked a huge controversy while putting forth a defense against Hindi being made a necessary language on Thursday. Addressing an assembly ceremony at Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, Ponmudy said that the state government was determined to implement a two-language framework. Explaining something very similar, the Education Minister of the state said that the two dialects were English-a global language and Tamil-a local language.
"If the argument that learning Hindi could open more employment opportunities was true then why are those speaking the language selling 'Paani Puri' here?", said Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister.
He also asked when individuals in the southern state are learning Tamil and English, then what is the requirement for different languages.
