Chidambaram said, "The scheme is controversial and carries multiple risks. There is no guarantee that soldiers trained under the scheme will be better trained and motivated to defend the country.
Our first concern is that Agneepath soldiers will be trained for six months and will serve the country for the next 42 months. The scheme discharges unhappy soldiers in the society. Age of 17 to 21 is also a major concern. The stated objective on saving on pension bills is a weak objective.
