The Union Cabinet on 14 June had approved a recruitment scheme for Indian youth to serve in the Armed Forces. The scheme is called AGNEEPATH and the youth selected under this scheme will be known as Agniveers. Agneepath allows patriotic and motivated youth to serve in the Armed Forces for a period of four years. Some BJP-ruled states have also come in and offered reservations in the state police, and other ministries have also jumped in. The finance ministry wants public sector banks to give reservations. There was an announcement that there will be Agniveers in the CAPF but no development so far in this regard.
We were joined by a few panelists who commented on this.
"Placement for ex-service people in corporate India in less than 2%. India Inc should give reservation to #Agniveers," says Tehseen Poonawalla, Political Analyst. "I would love to have young #Army trained people in our workforce. The private sector has to provide employment," said Kiran Shaw. "Everybody adjusts. Nobody is forcing people to join Agnipath Scheme," Ratan Sharda, Author, added.
