Minutes after the pair met with the Governor to lay their claim to form the government, the announcement was made. Fadnavis stated that he would not participate in the new administration, but he also stated that the BJP would back the Shinde administration. A few hours later, JP Nadda, the national president of the BJP, declared that the party has asked Fadnavis to serve as deputy chief minister.
