2:38Now PlayingThe Supreme Court granted an unmarried girl's appeal to terminate her pregnancy after 24 weeks, citing the Delhi High Court's overly restrictive ruling. The Delhi High Court had refused to grant the girl permission, stating that because she is an unmarried woman and her pregnancy is the result of a consensual relationship, her case is not covered by any of the clauses under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Rules, 2003, and thus Section 3(2)(b) of the Act does not apply to her case.
The Supreme Court held that the petitioner (woman) should not be refused the benefit just because she is unmarried.
