The chief minister's camp submitted three new symbols on Tuesday morning after the poll panel rejected its previous choices for technical reasons. On Monday, the commission assigned new names to the opposing camps led by Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray. The Uddhav faction received the 'flaming torch' (mashaal) as its election symbol from the poll panel. The commission rejected the election symbols claimed by the two factions, Trishul' (trident) and 'Gada' (mace), citing their religious connotation. Devendra Fadnavis has stated that they will continue to fight in the upcoming Andheri Bypolls with their alliance with the Shinde camp.
