In this episode of Big Focus, Afrida Rahman Ali will be discussing the Hijab Verdict. The Supreme Court issued a split decision on petitions contesting the March 15 Karnataka High Court decision on the hijab issue on Thursday. The High Court dismissed a slew of petitions filed by Muslim females enrolled in Udupi pre-university colleges seeking the right to wear hijab in class. Given the "divergence of view," the Supreme Court recommended that the appeals be heard by the Chief Justice of India to form a larger bench. "To deny education to girls because they are in Hijab is outright discriminatory and violative of the Rights granted by the constitution" Activist Zakia Soman. 'As a Muslim woman does it(Hijab) have to do with identity, spirituality, or is it a matter of choice?' Afrida Rahman Ali asks Social Activist Lubna Sarwath. Tune in for her reaction.
