This morning, when the air quality went from "extremely poor" to "severe," it got even riskier because it was already toxic. Children and the elderly find it difficult to breathe. A prestigious school has already shuttered, and yesterday the Delhi Government was advised to consider closing the city's schools until the situation improved by the National Commission for the Protection of Children's Rights. Every winter, Delhi's air becomes dangerously polluted, especially between mid-October and mid-November. Only when favourable meteorological circumstances allow some of the pollutants to be driven away will Delhi get a break.
