The Morbi Bridge collapse disaster was referred to as a "enormous tragedy" by the Supreme Court on Monday. The court also ordered the Gujarat High Court, which is already deliberating a suo motu case involving the same subject, to schedule regular hearings. A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice Hima Kohli noted, "It is an enormous tragedy and this will require weekly monitoring to see the award of contract, credential of the party awarded the contract, and attribution of responsibility for those guilty". A five-member committee has been established by the Gujarati government to investigate the bridge collapse incident.
