YouTube Description
as posted by the channelIn this episode of Urban Debate, the host Shreya Dhoundial will be discussing how there are times when we must halt, consider what and who is left out of history, and determine the type of historical consciousness that has to be ingrained in a contemporary, progressive society. Such introspection is particularly necessary in the context of India, where class, caste, tribal, religious, and gender identities continue to influence social relationships; where a small number of privileged individuals hegemonize the vast majority of the population; where history, tradition, and past practise are invoked to oppress Dalits, tribal people, and women; and where a majoritarian Hindu identity has been paired with a chest-thumping patriotism.
We are joined by a few panelists.
"There is a set agenda of promoting Eurocentric, colonial history in NCRT textbooks," says Umesh Ashok Kadam, Member Secretary ICHR.
"Centre wants to give us only right-wing side of #history. It's simple history cannot be written on the basis of religion," says Ashok Kumar Pandey, Author.
