He claimed that the collegium method now used in India violates the Constitution. Rijiju was responding to a query at the Time Now Summit 2022 regarding the process of selecting judges by collegium. Rijiju made some controversial claims about the problematic collegium system, which has drawn renewed public attention in the wake of the replacement of the high court judges in Telangana, Gujarat, and Madras, noting that the Supreme Court established a collegium system through a court order and that all judges before 1991 were chosen by the government. Supreme Court disapproves Law Minister Kiren Rijiju's statement on Collegium, says "The remarks should not have been made."

"Govt's recommendations are also taken in to consideration," said Justice Deepak Gupta, Former SC Judge.
"This should have happened much earlier, Govt has been sitting over recommendation made by collegium for way to long," said Rahul Mehra, Lawyer SC.
"Law Minister Kiren Rijiju should stop rubbing the Supreme Court in the wrong way," said Anurag Naidu, Political Analyst.
"Collegium system needs more transparency, but Govt is not at liberty to reject the opinions of judges," said Tehseen Poonawalla, Political Analyst.
"Collegium system is opaque, which needs transparency," said Karan Verma, Author and Political Analyst.
