Domestic benchmark indices continued their winning run to open higher on Wednesday, tracking gains in Asian shares which rose as jitters over protests in China set off by growing public anger over Covid-19 restrictions subsided.

The BSE Sensex rose over 100 points to trade around 16,800 levels while the NSE Nifty hovered around 18,650. Both indices on Tuesday logged their sixth straight session of gains to scale new peaks. Sensex settled higher at 62,682 while Nifty closed up at 18,618. Tata Steel, M&M, Dr Reddy’s, Nestle India, Hindalco, Bajaj Auto led the gains on the indices while HCL Tech, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Power Grid, Wipro, TCL were among the top drags. On the stock-specific front, Zomato rose 1.6 per cent after 5 million shares changed hands in a block trade.
