The 45-year-old lawmaker, who began his political career in the DMK's youth wing, is praised by party members as an effective organiser and go-getter who led the youth wing to new heights. Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the leader of the opposition and interim general secretary of the AIADMK, blasted the incumbent DMK as a 'family party' while speaking at a party event in Tirupur. Stalin, according to him, has handed seniors 'dummy' departments and plans to appoint his son Udhayanidhi to the position of Minister 'within four days.' The AIADMK chairman recalled that the late DMK founder M Karunanidhi had once criticised the Nehru-Gandhi family and questioned whether it was a royal clan because members of that family were able to ascend to the position of Prime Minister.
