2:18Now PlayingThe Karnataka government's plan to provide reservations to Vokkaligas and Lingayats was thwarted on Thursday when the High Court issued an interim order to keep the status quo on reservations provided to various communities in the state. According to the order, reservations will be offered to various groups in accordance with the government notification issued in March 2002, and the new reservation categories announced by the state government — 2C for Vokkaligas and 2D for Lingayats — will be subject to judicial scrutiny, according to government sources. The interim order was issued in connection with a Public Interest Litigation filed by D G Raghavendra, a Bengaluru resident, who sought court directions against granting Panchamasalis — a sub-sect of Lingayats — reservation under 2A category.
