The state's minister for milk and dairy development is SM Nasar. After reportedly spreading false information that the Central government had imposed Goods & Service Tax (GST) on milk, SM Nasar made news last year. On November 4, 2022, the DMK Minister was discussing the rise in milk prices at state-owned Aavin during a news conference. Cow milk's procurement price has increased from Rs 32 to Rs 35, while buffalo milk's procurement price has increased from Rs 41 to Rs 44.
