4:19Now PlayingThe White House defended the shooting down of three unidentified objects in the space, even as it was acknowledged that officials had no reason to believe the objects were meant for surveillance in the same way as the high-altitude Chinese balloon that had flown over American airspace earlier this month. According to White House national security spokesman John Kirby, the three objects—including one that was shot down on Sunday over Lake Huron—were flying at such a low altitude as to be dangerous for civilian air traffic.
