Kochi: Burning Waste Suffocates city | Poor Waste Management = India's Bane? | Beyond The Headline

In this segment of Beyond The Headline with Tamanna Inamdar, we will deliberate on suffocating city Kochi. The smouldering fire that started on Thursday evening at the solid waste dumping ground at Brahmapuram, about 20 kilometres outside of the city, has been causing a haze of smoke to hang over Kochi City and its Surrounding Areas for the past three days. The majority of the debris that caught fire was made up of plastic and other non-biodegradable materials, so the smoke from the fire has been making it difficult for people to breathe nearby. We have George Mathew Kochi citizen along with Vimlendu Jha Environmentalist, Siddharth Singh waste management CSE and Dr Suneel Pandey TERI As our main guests to put some light on the case and it's conclusion.

"Had to move out of our house because we couldn't breathe," said George Mathew, Concerned Kochi Citizen. "Almost 8000 landfills in India are on fire throughout the year, these are ticking time bombs," said Vimlendu. Listen in!
