Atiq Ahmed, Dinesh Pasi, and Khan Saulat Hanif were all given life sentences by the MP-MLA court, along with a punishment of Rs. 1 lakh. The imprisoned don has received his first conviction. Khalid Azim alias Ashraf, one of the seven other defendants, was found not guilty in the case. Atiq Ahmed suffered yet another defeat when the Supreme Court rejected his request for protection while he was being held by Uttar Pradesh police in connection with the murder of Umesh Pal.
