On Sunday, Murthy from Pulikeshinagar submitted his resignation to speaker Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri at his residence in Sirsi. The MLA, who won his first election on a JD(S) ticket in 2013 and joined the Congress in 2018, was one of the high-profile victims during the DJ Halli and KG Halli riots in 2020. His house was burnt down. Murthy's resignation comes in the wake of reports that Congress is not likely to field him this time. Speculation is rife he may join BJP.
