In his address to the gathering, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed joy that the 'Chintan Shivir' is being held in Manipur this year, and that many athletes from the Northeast had lifted the glory of the Tricolour by winning medals for the country. PM Modi emphasised the region's indigenous sports, such as Sagol Kangjai, Thang-ta, Yubi Lakpi, Mukna, and Hiang Tannaba, as being particularly appealing in their own right.
