SC Cautions ED Over Chhattisgarh Liquor 'Scam' Probe | Officers Being Threatened? | The Urban Debate

In this episode of The Urban Debate, host Shreya Dhoundial will discuss how a second lead today is coming from the Supreme Court that has pulled up the Enforcement Directorate asking it not to create an atmosphere of fear. This as the Chhattisgarh government came to caught alleging that the agency is threatening state excise department officials and there families and pressurizing them to implicate chief minister Bhupesh Baghel in an alleged 2000 crore rupee liquor scam. The top court’s stinging remark are coming against the backdrop of the opposition parties across India alleging a witch-hunt by central investigative agencies be it the ED, be it the CBI. In fact, Chhattisgarh had become the first state last month to move the Supreme Court alleging the use of these agencies to intimidate, harass and disturb non-BJP governments. In its application, the Chhattisgarh government says 52 officers have been tortured and that there family members have also been threatened and asked to sign blank papers. They say this is being done so that they can implicate the chief minister and destabilize the government. We are joined by a few panelists expressing their views on this issue. “Enforcement Directorate is being used by BJP not just against Opposition leaders but also industrialists. An extortion racket is going on,” stated Dushyant Dave, Senior Advocate.
