15:56Now PlayingAn Air India flight that was bound for the Delhi-San Francisco route was diverted to Magadan in Russia for an emergency landing on Tuesday due to an engine glitch. The flight was carrying 216 passengers and 16 crew members. However, the stranded passengers in Russia are having contrasting views to the official statements released by Air India and the US State Department on the situation.
Air India confirmed the situation in a statement released that “the aircraft is undergoing mandatory checks and the passengers are being provided all support on the ground. The passengers will be provided an alternate option to reach their destination at the earliest. Air India will send a plane on Wednesday to pick up passengers and crew who were on board a flight diverted to Russia and fly them to their original destination, San Francisco.”
The US State Department Spokesperson also confirmed in a statement saying “We are aware of a US-bound flight that had to make an emergency landing in Russia and are continuing to monitor that situation closely.”
