In this episode of Beyond The Headline, host Tamanna Inamdar will discuss how Prime Minister Modi’s three-day visit to the United States will be remembered for many reasons. He will be the first Indian leader to have addressed the US Congress twice. The GE jet engine deal marks the first in transfer of technology as does the prospect of an Indian astronaut on a joint mission with the United States. But there is one more important first that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing a press conference and taking questions. One of them on the state of democracy in India. The Q&A format of the press conference post the Modi-Biden bilateral included one question from an American journalist and one from an Indian journalist. The question from the American journalist who worked for the Wall Street Journal was on India’s track record with human rights and minorities. The answer from Prime Minister Narendra Modi was an elaborate one that emphasized the role of democracy in India. We are joined by a few panelists expressing their views on this issue. “If Narendra Modi got two consecutive tenures as PM, it doesn't matter if the U.S. gave him Visa or not. People of India stand with him,” stated Anurag Naidu, National Media Personality.
