The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), which was building the collapsed bridge, was building a 49-kilometer, four-lane road connecting the districts of Kishanganj and Katihar as part of the Bharat Mala project. Tejashwi Yadav, the deputy chief minister, tweeted about this issue on Saturday at the same time. He explained by tweeting that the Central Government's agenda is what is driving the construction of this bridge. The Bihar government played no part in building this bridge.
