In this episode of Beyond The Headlines with Shreya Upadhyaya, we will be discussing an opposition unity meeting in Bengaluru. In the Bengaluru meeting, Congress appears to have relinquished its claim to the PM face, with sources quoting Congress President Kharge stating that the party is not seeking power but aims to safeguard democracy, justice, and the nation. This move has given ammunition to the BJP to criticize and question whether the Congress has already conceded defeat. Leaders like Akhilesh Yadav, Arvind Kejriwal, Mamata Banerjee, Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, and more were present. The opposition alliance will be known as Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) and will contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections against the ruling NDA. Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed the opposition and accused them of organizing a "pure corruption congregation" in Bengaluru. "Change is vital to ensure that constitutional values keep pulsating through the veins of the republic.26 Opposition parties reflect desire, yearning & restlessness in India for an alternative to NDA", says Manish Tewari.
