It's been three days since communal violence broke out in Mewat. The chief Minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar, has called communal rights a conspiracy to destabilise the state ahead of elections. But more than conspiracy, it was complacency that led to these rights. The signs were all there; social media had already lit the fire with provocative videos from both sides. The government should have been ready not just to be strong enough to deal with this violence but also to monitor social media.
