The crowd had gathered in the area with the intention of breaking the curfew in order to reach their abandoned homes in the nearby area, which has been one of the worst hit areas by continued violence in Manipur. The security forces have been reported to have tried to negotiate with the masses, but it did not work. Analyst Jaideep Mazumdar says, that, people shouldn't have marched towards the buffer zone. But it also cannot absolve the state government. They should have been able to convince them against it.
