The meeting agreed to drop all the cases filed against the protesters who joined the Maratha reservation agitation in Jalna district, where a local leader Manoj Jarange Patil had been on a hunger strike since August 29. The meeting also discussed the legal aspects of giving reservations to the Maratha community, which had been rejected by the Supreme Court in May 2023 as unconstitutional. Shinde said that the government wants to give a quota to the Marathas that will be watertight and will pass legal scrutiny, but it won’t make any rash decision.
