In July, the High Court had directed the Goa government to declare the sanctuary as a tiger reserve within three months.The Goa government has filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court, challenging the High Court's order and seeking to keep the Mhadei forests and "Mother Mhadei" vulnerable. However, the Supreme Court has refused to grant a stay on the High Court's order, which means that the process of declaring the sanctuary as a tiger reserve will continue.
