The Supreme Court has questioned the delay for 21 years and that the Centre must intervene to ensure that there is some sort of relief to assess the progress of land designated for the construction of the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal in Punjab. Additionally, the court has called upon the Punjab Government to cooperate with this survey. The court has scheduled the next hearing for January 2024. It's worth noting that in 2002, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Haryana's water-sharing lawsuit and directed Punjab to uphold its commitments regarding water-sharing.
