2:07Now PlayingBreaking News: Tomato farmers in Latur are facing a crisis as they are unable to sell their produce in the market. They have resorted to dumping their tomatoes on the roads as a sign of protest. The reason for their plight is the low prices offered by the traders, which are much lower than the production cost. Last year, they got more than Rs 800 (20 kg) per crate, but this year, they are getting only Rs 3/4 per Kg or 30 / crate. The supply of tomatoes has increased due to favorable weather conditions, but the demand has decreased due to the pandemic and lockdown. The farmers are demanding government intervention and support to save their livelihoods. Watch this video to learn more about the tomato crisis in Nashik and its impact on farmers and consumers.
