A study published in the Experimental and Clinical Transplantation Journal in 2021 revealed a significant gender gap in living organ transplantation in the country. The analysis of organ transplants conducted in 2019 indicated that 80% of living organ donors were women, predominantly wives or mothers, while 80% of the recipients were men.
A panel of experts has joined Shreya Dhoundial for a detailed discussion. Dr Vasanthi Ramesh said, “Men think being breadwinners as well as donors, family will suffer.
