The pictures and videos are manipulated to make them appear nude. Such "nudifying" apps predominantly target women. Images or videos are taken from social media without the consent or knowledge of victims. Research suggests these services use popular social media sites for marketing. Links advertising undressing apps increased more than 2,400% on social media. Around 34 companies were found to be offering such services.
