The police ascribed the increase, among other things, to increased awareness, measures such as filing suo moto cases and registering e-FIRs. In 2023, the city also saw a rise in other crimes compared to the previous two years, with the police documenting 205 murders, 153 chain snatchings, 673 robberies, 1,692 home thefts, and 5,909 motor vehicle thefts. We are joined by a few panelists expressing their views on this issue. “More women are getting aware & reporting crimes,” stated Ex-IPS Officer Nirmal Kaur.
