The Karnataka government has been accused by the BJP of "illegally allocating" ₹ 15 lakh to the relatives of a Kerala man who was murdered by an elephant that was taken in Karnataka but wandered into the adjoining state of Wayanad. The head of the BJP's Karnataka unit, BY Vijayendra, said on Monday that the Congress administration in Karnataka was wasting public funds "to curry favour" with the previous party president, Rahul Gandhi, the Congress politician and Wayanad MP. Karnataka Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre said on Sunday that the Kerala man will receive compensation from the state government equivalent to that which was given to the Karnataka residents who were killed by an elephant.
