The court made the argument that two courts could not hear the same matter. The petitioner should be permitted to withdraw the plea at this point and move the high court in its place, as the top court made it apparent that it would dismiss the case. The bench gave in. Violent demonstrations have been taking place in Sandeshkhali, a hamlet in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, in response to claims made by a local TMC leader and his followers that they had sexually abused women.
