1:25Now PlayingWith a final vote by parliamentarians on Monday night, France is poised to become the first country in history to expressly include abortion rights in its constitution. This is happening in the face of a global backlash against reproductive rights in the United States and other countries. President Emmanuel Macron has called a special meeting of Parliament to be held at the Palace of Versailles. Three-fifths of the members must vote in favour of the measure protecting abortion rights. The law was overwhelmingly approved by the lower house of the French parliament, the National Assembly, in January. The law was also approved by the senate on Wednesday, with the amendment's language changed to "guaranteed freedom" in response to conservative criticism.
