Gandhi wrote to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, expressing horror at Sidharthan's "tragic death" following "days of gruesome torture" at the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University in Wayanad. He said that the offenders are involved members of the Students Federation of India (SFI). The leader of the Congress stated that "our faith in the possibility of an impartial investigation" had been undermined by the way the arrests were handled, which came about only after intense public outcry.
