The Union Home Ministry notified the rules for the implementation of the CAA on March 11, just days ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Home Minister Amit Shah had previously stated that the CAA rules would be announced before the parliamentary polls scheduled for April-May. The CAA, passed by Parliament in December 2019 and receiving Presidential assent, had sparked protests and controversy since its inception. The Trinamool Congress (TMC), led by Mamata Banerjee, has been a vocal opponent of the CAA. The implementation of the CAA remains a key electoral agenda for the BJP in the upcoming elections.
