Now PlayingBreaking News Live: The Centre informed the Supreme Court today that it will not take action against the Opposition party to recover tax dues of more than ₹ 3,500 crore, which is a huge relief to the Congress ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The court stated that the case would be heard again on July 24. Following letters from the Income Tax department, the Congress filed an appeal with the Supreme Court, requesting payment of outstanding taxes totaling an astounding ₹ 3,567 crore. In the run-up to the elections, the opposition party has accused the ruling BJP of "tax terrorism" and said that the Income Tax department's action is an attempt to financially strangle it. The party has requested the Election Commission to take action since it believes that this is preventing the polls from being conducted fairly.
