Iranian state media earlier reported that the incident occurred near Jolfa in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province. President Raisi was returning from a ceremony to open a dam on Iran’s border with Azerbaijan when his helicopter crashed. Iranian state media reported that bad weather was the cause of the crash and was complicating rescue efforts.
