1:39Now PlayingChief Minister M K Stalin announced that the Tamil Nadu Prohibition Amendment Act 2024, which enforces stricter penalties for the manufacture, possession, and sale of dangerous illicit liquor, is now in effect. The amendment to the TN Prohibition Act, 1937, prompted by the hooch tragedy in Kallakurichi, was unanimously adopted by the state legislative assembly on June 29 and received Governor R N Ravi's permission on July 11. The amended Act has been officially notified in the Gazette. This change comes in response to the methanol-laced illicit liquor incident in June that claimed over 60 lives.
