4:04Now PlayingKolkata Trams | After 150 years of service, Kolkata's iconic trams and India's only surviving tram network, is likely to fade away into pages of history as sources say the West Bengal government has decided to run trams only on a small stretch between Esplanade and Maidan and do away with the rest of routes across the city. The state's transport department is preparing a report that will be submitted to the Calcutta High Court which had asked the state to find ways to preserve the heritage transport service, sources said. Tram services will be run on the Esplanade-Kidderpore route, as a heritage service. The scenic route which runs through the Maidan, has been closed since Cyclone Amphan in May 2020.
