27:18Now PlayingIn this episode of Urban Debate, anchor Ritangshu Bhattacharya discusses how despite a history of fiscal surpluses, Delhi is now facing a potential financial crisis. From 2017-18 to 2022-23, the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) consistently recorded surpluses, with the highest at Rs 14,456.91 crore in 2022-23. The fiscal year 2023-24 also projects a surplus of Rs 6,462.29 crore. However, 2024-25 estimates show a potential shift, as the current surplus of Rs 3,231.19 crore could turn into a deficit of Rs 1,495.48 crore due to additional demands on the budget.
A panel of experts has joined anchor Ritangshu Bhattacharya to discuss this in detail. Senior Economist Vijay Sardana says “There is no focus on governance, the focus is on populism..” AAP's Reena Gupta says “Opposition ruling sate's shareable pool of taxes is lowest under Modi govt..” Watch the full discussion to know more and follow Mirror Now for the latest updates.
